Aceto, Fleming, Gould & Ramsdell Earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors

GORHAM, Maine  –  Juniors Ashlee Aceto (South Portland, Maine), Amy Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble), Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) and Franny Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
 
To be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, must be at least a sophomore academically and have been at their current institution for one full academic year.  Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as both an undergrad and graduate student-athlete. 
 
A Psychology major, Aceto is in her second season with the Huskies, and earned 2022 William B. Wise Scholar Athlete honors in the fall.  One of the Huskies' top defensive players, Aceto has played 24 of USM's game, starting 23.  She is averaging 3.2 points, a team-leading 5.7 rebounds per game, and is chipping in with 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.  Through 46 career games, Aceto, a guard, has 160 points, 199 rebounds, 37 assists, 34 steals and nine  blocked shots.
 
A two-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, Fleming is a Business Management major with a concentration in Marketing. The Huskies leading scorer, Fleming is averaging 11.3 points, 4.0  rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.  Her 2.3 assists per game lead Southern Maine.  She has scored in double-figures in 16 games this season, establishing a career-high of 28 points against Castleton University (January 28).  Fleming is shooting 31.1 percent from three (23-for-74).
 
A Nursing major, Gould is a two-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.  A guard for the Huskies, Gould is averaging a career-best 7.3 points per game, and adding 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.  Gould has set career-highs in nearly every statistical category this season, scoring 17 points at Plymouth State, snagging eight rebounds on the road at Saint Joseph's (Maine) College) and passing off five assists at Castleton. 
 
A double major pursuing degrees in Psychology and Business, Ramsdell is averaging 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting a career-best 30.7 percent from the field. Scoring in double-digits in seven games this season, Ramsdell has set a season and career high with 26 points against Western Connecticut.  She established a new career-high in rebounding this season, snagging 10 rebounds (five offensive, five defensive) in USM's LEC opener with Keene State.  She also set a career-mark in steals, coming up with four against UMaine Farmington. 
 
As Academic All-District student-athlete honorees, Aceto, Fleming, Gould and Ramsdell are eligible for selection to the Academic All-America program. Voting for the Academic All-America program runs through February 28.  Members of College Sports Communicators are eligible to vote. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling).
