Southern Maine Earns Fifth Seed For 2023 LEC Championship Quarterfinal

Huskies Head to Castleton University on Tuesday (6:00 pm)

GORHAM, Maine  -   Closing the Little East Conference regular-season portion of its schedule with back-to-back wins, and three of its last four, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team has earned the fifth-seed for the upcoming Little East Conference Championship tournament.  Southern Maine will face fourth-seed Castleton University on Tuesday, February 21 (6:00 pm) at Glenbrook Gym.

Southern Maine completed the LEC regular season with a record of 6-10, closing the regular season with a 53-38 road win at UMass Boston and a 71-54 win over Western Connecticut this Saturday.  Both wins avenged earlier season losses to UMB and WestConn for the Huskies.

The rest of the tournament field includes top seed Eastern Connecticut State, second seed Rhode Island College, third seed UMass Dartmouth. Keene State earned the sixth seed. Both EastConn and RIC shared the conference's regular season title with identical 15-1 conference records, splitting their series. Eastern Connecticut earned the top seed and right to host following the LEC tie-breaking procedures.
