Anthony Mears (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic) each earned a win by fall to highlight a strong performance by the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a 30-13 win over the Norwich University Cadets in a wrestling dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies won the six first eight individual bouts and seven of 10 overall en route to the dominating performance in Vermont. USM is now 11-8 in dual meets.

On the Mat:
- Freshman Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) started the Huskies off with a dominating 15-3 major decision win at 125, as USM captured the 125, 133, 141, 149 and 157 bouts consecutively.
- Ford pinned his opponent, Dylan King, at 133 in 6:59, and was followed by a high-scoring win by decision by freshman Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) at 141. Frost defeated Joseph Lotruglio 16-11.
- Sophomore Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle), ranked 11th nationally by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) at 149 earned an 18-2 (5:25) win by technical fall over Norwich's Ethan Tanner. Senior Jeremy Sendrowski (Scarborough, Maine) picked up a 6-4 decision at 157.
- Sophomore Tyler Haynes (Metuchen, N.J.) claimed a thrilling 3-1 decision over Joshua Ducharme at 165, picking up the win in sudden victory to give the Huskies a commanding 24-0 lead.
- Norwich claimed victory in the 174, and 184 weight classes to trial 24-10, before Mears earned USM's second win by fall of the dual meet putting Norwich's Shane Daly to the mat in 2:38 at 197.
- Norwich's Mason Sprinkel picked up the Cadets final three points with a 3-2 sudden victory win over Husky senior Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy).
Up Next:
Southern Maine is off until Sunday, February 19 when wrestlers will compete in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament. After the NEWA Futures Tournament, the Huskies will gear up for the 2023 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship. USM will be the host site for the regional tournament held February 25-26.
