MEDFORD, Mass. – Andrea DelGiudice scored twice in the first half to lead the No. 10 Tufts University Jumbos to a 5-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship Tournament Wednesday night at Ounjian Field.
With the win, Tufts advances to the second round of the tournament and will play again on Saturday. The loss concludes the 2023 season for the Huskies, who finished the season as the Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions.

Today's game marked the just the second meeting between the University of Southern Maine Huskies and Tufts University. Tufts leads the series 2-0, defeating USM 1-0 in its previous meeting during the 1996 season.
How It Happened:
- After a scoreless 10 minutes, DelGiudice put the Jumbos ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute with her ninth goal of the season. Tufts doubled its lead in the 12th minute on a score from Rachel Scrivanich.
- Tufts added two more goals in the second quarter to go ahead 4-0 at the break. Kylei Rosenquest notched the third goal of the game in the 21st minute, and DelGuidice made it 4-0 in the 29th minute with her 10th goal of the season.
- Rosenquest scored the lone goal of the second half for the 5-0 final, putting one into the net in the 35th minute.
- Senior goalkeeper Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) put in a strong performance against the nationally-ranked Jumbos, making nine saves, including seven in the second half.
- Senior Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine) and junior Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) each had a shot for the Huskies.

Inside The Statistics:
- Tufts outshot the Huskies 27-2 in the contest, and had a 9-1 advantage on penalty corners.
- The Huskies' 15 wins in 2023 matched the win total from 2022 and is the most for the program since the 2003 season (17-6). The 2003 squad is the last Husky team to win a Little East Conference title and advance to the NCAAs.
