NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior
Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine) and freshman
Norie Tibbets (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area) each scored two goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs 7-1 in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
The Huskies remain undefeated in the Little East Conference at 3-0. Finishing the week 2-0, Southern Maine totaled 12 goals in two games.

Today's game marked the 42
nd game between the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs. Southern Maine leads the series 23-17-2 after today's win. The Huskies are 5-1 in their last six contests with the Corsairs, and have won the last two by a combined score of 17-1. UMD last defeated Southern Maine 2-1 in double overtime in 2021.
How It Happened:
- After an evenly played first quarter, with USM holding a slim 5-4 edge in shots, both teams were tied at 1-1. Junior Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) scored the first goal of the game in the third minute, and UMD's Maggie Doherty tied it up in the 13th minute for the Corsairs.
- Southern Maine dominated the second quarter, outshooting UMD 11-2 and holding a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners. With increased offensive pressure, Southern Maine led 3-1 at the half. Senior Mary Keef (Westbrook, Maine) scored in the 21st minute, and Banks scored the first of her two goals in the 24th minute.
- After the break, the Huskies quickly added to its goal tally to take a 5-1 lead in the third. Junior Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored in the 31st minute, while Banks secured her brace in the 36th.
- Tibbets did all of the Huskies' scoring in the fourth scoring both of her goals. Tibbets' goal in the 56th was assisted by classmate Dylan Barr (Phippsburg, Maine/Morse), while her goal in the final minute of the game was an unassisted effort.
