GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Vanessa Vaughan (Hantsport, Nova Scotia/King's Edge Hill) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week. Previously named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week on December 6, Vaughan is earning weekly honors from the LEC for the first time this season.
 
Vaughan had a standout pair of games as the Huskies' competed at the 2022 D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.  Averaging 17.5 points per game while shooting a remarkable 60.0 percent (12-for-20) from the field, the 5-11 small forward added 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.  Vaughan established a career-high scoring 20 points and had four rebounds on an 8-for-14 effort from the field against SUNY Oneonta.  Playing in back-to-back games, Vaughan added 15 points, a career-best nine rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot in a 64-47 win over Montclair State.
 
Playing in all nine of the Huskies' games so far this season, Vaughan has earned a starting role in the last five games for Southern Maine.  Playing 21.6 minutes per game, she is averaging 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
 
Southern Maine returns to action at home on January 4 (5:30 pm) against Little East Conference opponent Plymouth State University. The Huskies are 1-2 in LEC contest.
