Four Players in Double Figures for WestConn in Win Over Southern Maine 77-62

DANBURY, Conn.   –  Kendall Robinson had a game-high 19 points and three other players scored in double figures as the Western Connecticut State University Wolves defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 77-62 in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena. Jaysean Morgan added 18 points for the Wolves, while Ryan Alkins and Jalen Jackson had 11 and 10 points each.
 
Southern Maine rookie Diego Colon (New Braunfels, Texas) set a career-high for the second straight game leading the Huskies with 17 points.  Junior Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) added 16.
 
The Records:
Southern Maine (10-6, 4-3 Little East)
Western Connecticut (13-1, 5-1 Little East).
 
How It Happened:
  • Western Connecticut led wire-to-wire scoring the first eight points of the game.  Southern Maine battled back intot the game and trailed by one, 15-14, after a three from Dixon at the 5:55 mark, but WestConn stayed in front and led 27-21 at the half. Dixon had nine of his 16 points in the first half for Southern Maine.
  • The Huskies stayed within striking distance in the second half and trailed by five, 49-44, with 10:25 to play following a three from junior Simon Chadbourne (Westbrook, Maine), but WestConn pulled away and led by 19 with just over two minutes to play following a pair of free throws from Jahiem Young
 
Inside The Stats:
  •  Western shot 25-for-53 from the field (47.2 percent), while Southern Maine was 20-for-54 (37 percent). 
  • The Wolves had a sizeable advantage in rebounding leading USM 40-28. 
  • USM turned the ball over 25 times and the Wolves scored 22 points off of Husky miscues.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies hit the road for Saturday (3:00 pm) at Western Connecticut.  Southern Maine returns home on Wednesday (7:30 pm) against UMass Boston. Both games are Little East Conference match ups.
