Hayes Estrella (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) came up big with a save on a penalty shot in the 75
th minute to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 1-1 draw with the Curry College Colonels in a non-conference men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
Facing Curry for just the second time in program history, Southern Maine is now 1-0-1 all time against the Colonels. USM defeated Curry 1-0 in overtime in 2021.

How It Happened:
- Curry took an early lead on Southern Maine when Lucas Drons laced a shot from 24-yards out to the upper corner of the far post.
- The lead and Drons' goal stood until the 44th minute when Kita notched his first intercollegiate goal of his career for the equalizer. Kita hit a one-time shot to the far post off of an assist from junior Will Smith (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional).
- Southern Maine dominated play to open the second half firing off several chances but were unable to get the go-ahead goal. Momentum switched in favor of Curry in the 70th minute as the Colonels had a flurry of solid chances. Drons went one-on-one with Estrella after running onto a through ball in the 18, but Estrella came off his line and made a big save.
- Estrella made another big save on Drons' penalty shot, making a diving stop and holding onto the ball in the 75th minute.
