Huskies Drop Road Game with Panthers

Plymouth, N.H. – Crosby Fay (Waterville Valley, N.H.) scored five goals to lead eight Panthers in scoring as the Plymouth State University Panthers took down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 15-9 in Plymouth on Tuesday evening. Schuyler Wetmore (Cumberland Center, Maine/Greely) led the Huskies in scoring with four goals.

When and Where: Tuesday, April 26 – Plymouth State University – Panther Field

History: This was the 23rd matchup between the two teams. The Panthers now lead the series 18-5.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-The Panthers jumped out to an early lead as Fay scored two of his five goals in the first quarter. Matt Miner (Chelmsford, Mass.), Shea Clark (Woburn, Mass.), Mike Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.), and Riley Roy (Laconia, N.H.) all also tallied early goals and gave the Panthers a 6-2 lead going into the second quarter.

-Wetmore scored his first goal of the game just under five minutes into play and Omar Contreras (Portland, Maine/Deering) added the team's second tally of the quarter with 2:40 to play.

-After ten minutes of even play, Wetmore opened scoring again and led the Huskies to a four-goal second quarter. He scored twice and Tucker Nussinow (Winthrop, Maine/Kent Hills School) and Aidan Mitchell (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) each added a goal. Plourde made three key saves and held the Panthers to just one goal, which brought the score to 7-6 in favor of Plymouth State at the half. 

-Two goals from Fleury and three in a row from Fay pushed the Panthers further ahead. Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) added a goal for the Huskies, but they trailed 12-7 with one quarter to play.

-The Panthers scored three fourth quarter goals to the Huskies three to put the game away 15-9.

-Plymouth State out-shot the Huskies 54-39, but Southern Maine won 15-of-28 faceoffs. 

-Defender Robby Pini (Natick, Mass./Natick) collected an impressive 11 ground balls for the Huskies and caused one turnover.

Up Next: The Huskies will close out the regular season as they host Eastern Connecticut State for a conference game on April 29 at 4pm.
