Sinclair, Vesosky Power USM to 9-0 Win Over Plymouth State

GORHAM, Maine  – Senior James Sinclair (Portland, Maine/Deering) threw seven innings of scoreless work and struck out 11 batters, and junior Tom Vesosky (Colchester, Vermont) was 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI and two runs scored to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 9-0 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers in a Little East Conference baseball game Monday night at Ed Flaherty Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Huskies scored three runs in the third, taking advantage of two Panther fielding efforts and then rattled off six runs in the fourth to seal the game. 
  • Vesosky singled in the Huskies two runs in the third and then scored the Huskies third run of the game on on a fielding error.
  • Sophomore Janek Luksza (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) had two RBI with a double down the right field line to start the six-run fourth inning.  Junior Colby Dexter (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) had  sacrifice fly RBI to right field to make it 6-0, before Vesosky drove in two more with a double to right for an 8-0 Husky advantage.  Sophomore Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) drove in the final run of the game with an RBI single to score Vesosky.
  • Sinclair's 11 strikeouts are a season high.  Sincalir's 13 strikeouts against St. Norbert on March 19, 2019 are his career high. Sincalir retired seven consecutive Panthers from the second through the fourth inning, picking up four strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT:
Southern Maine is scheduled to host Endicott College on Wednesday (3:30 pm) in a non-conference game before traveling to UMass Boston on Saturday (12:00 pm) for a Little East Conference doubleheader.
