HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WashU scored three runs in the top of the fourth and added two more in the top of the eight to seal the win.
  • The Bears turned three hits and a walk into three runs in the fourth while taking advantage of a Husky fielding error.  Tim Van Kirk and Malis each had RBI singles in the inning.
  • The Huskies took a run back in the bottom of the third on some heads-up base running from sophomore Jonathan Wilson (East Granby, Conn.).  Wilson led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a walk to freshman Zach Mooers (Winchester, N.H./Keene) and then took third on a fielder's choice ground out. Wilson stole home in the Huskies' next at bat breaking for the plate on the throw as seniorJason Komulainen (Gorham, Maine) stole second.
  • The score remained 3-1 headed into the top of the eighth. WashU again took advantage of a costly fielding error and used a sacrifice fly RBI from Malis to go ahead 5-1. Clayton Miller who entered the game in relief of Sanchen in the bottom of the sixth, retired the Huskies in order in the bottom of the eighth and then worked his way around a ninth inning single to preserve the win.
