AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Zac Vorst and Keagan Vance each drove in three runs to lead the No. 9 University of Texas at Dallas Comets to a 12-6 win over the 19
th-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies Friday evening at RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Comets combined for 14 hits off of Southern Maine pitchers and scored six runs over the sixth and seventh inning to break open a close game to earn their fourth consecutive win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UTD scored in the top of the first on an RBI single up the middle from Marcos Villegas, and tacked on three more runs in the top of the third with a three-run home run from Vorst to jump out to an early 4-0 lead over the Huskies.
- Southern Maine halved its deficit in the home half of the third on a two-run double from sophomore Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) to the right field gap. Seymour drove in Jack LeBlond (Lewiston, Maine/Bridgton Academy) and Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy with his second double of the season. LeBlond led off the inning with a single, while Searle-Belanger drew a walk.
- After a scoreless fourth, the Comets made it 5-2 on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Skivington in the top of the fifth. USM rallied again in the bottom of the inning scoring two more runs to make it a 5-4 game. Sophomore Jonathan Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) had a two-run single to left to account for the Husky runs. USM had three hits in the inning, including a double from Tom Vesosky (Colchester, Vermont) and a single from Searle-Belanger in addition to Wilson's two-RBI single.
- UTD added a pair of runs in the sixth, and scored four more in the seven to break the game open. Vance had a critical three-run double down the left field line to give the Comets a comfortable 10-4 lead before Ramon Garza made it 11-4 with an RBI single.
- Villegas gave UTD a 12-4 lead in the top of the ninth with an RBI walk, before USM freshman Zach Mooers (Winchester, N.H./Keene) stroked a two-out, two-run home run to left in the bottom of the inning for the 12-6 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Jonathan Wilson (East Granby) each had two RBI for the Huskies.
- Senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), sophomore Tom Vesosky and junior Arlo Pike each had a pair of hits for the Huskies. Vesosky, Seymour and Pike each recorded a double.
- Freshman Zach Mooers (Winchester, N.H./Keene) hit his first career home run with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.
- Southern Maine has a top-10 school in each of its first four games of the 2022 season.
- UTD's four pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts against the Huskies. Starter Dylan Hugley pitched 4.2 innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven.
- USM's Joshua Joy (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) gave up five earned runs on seven hits and two walks, pitching 5.0 innings in his start.
