CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Blakeley Buckingham scored in the 31
st minute to lead the No. 25 William College Ephs to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon at MIT.
With the win, Williams advances to the second round of the NCAA tourney and will face MIT at 1pm. Making the program's first appearance in the NCAA tournament, Southern Maine concludes its historic season with a record of 17-4 – setting a program record wins in a season, while claiming the program's first Little East Conference Regular Season Title and Conference Tournament Championship.

How It Happened:
- Buckingham received a ball from Brianna Binder to get into the Huskies' defensive third and then picked up her own deflection to score the lone goal of the game.
- Williams held a majority of possession in the opening half, leading the Huskies 9-2 in shots and 5-1 in corners, but Husky junior goalkeeper Breanna Atwood (Franklin, Mass.) made three solid first half saves to keep it 1-0.
- In the second half, Southern Maine matched Williams in possession, 7-7 on shots. Atwood was outstanding for the Huskies in the second half, making five saves including a diving punching stop in the 74th minute to keep it 1-0.
- Southern Maine came close to an equalizer in the 85th minute on a free kick from graduate student Gaby Panagakos, but Eph goalkeerp Leyla Kamshad made a diving stop to preserve the win.
