How It Happened:
- Scoring on their opening possession, the Huskies led wire-to-wire to win their second game to start the season. Senior Cody Hawes (Carmel, Maine/Hmeron) had 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists and scored the first bucket of the game.
- Ahead 11-7 at 16:09 after a layup from Hawes, Southern Maine hit three consecutive three-pointers, from freshman Diego Colon (New Braunfels, Texas), sophomore Juneau Anicette (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and freshman Tommy Whelan (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) to balloon its lead to 20-7 with 13:24 left in the half.
- The Huskies offensive continued to roll in the first. Up 30-16 with 5:55 to play, USM used a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to go ahead 43-16. Thomas' Wyatt Thompson made a bucket with 29 seconds left in the half, but Chadbourne hit a jumper for the 47-23 lead at the break.
- USM stayed hot in the second half, scoring the first 14 points, including four consecutive threes from Chadbourne, to lead 61-23 with 16:11 to go. From there, Thomas never got closer than 35 points.
- Whelan's traditional three-point play at 6:35 remaining gave the Huskies a 45-point lead, and a Mark Asare jumper with eight second to play gave USM its largest lead, 99-48, before TC's Jacob Bouchard hit a three at the buzzer for the 99-51 final.
