With the win, Southern Maine advances to the semifinal round and will host no. 4 seed Keene State on Thursday (7 pm).  Facing the Rams for the 28th time in series history, Southern Maine now leads the series 22-6.  Defeating the Rams 6-1 in the regular season (October 11), the Huskies have won the last 10 games against Framingham State.

How It Happened:
  • Southern Maine junior Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) put the Huskies on the board in the first quarter scoring her 14th goal of the season in the ninth minute, redirecting in a pass from sophomore Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine).
  • Senior captain Samantha Ellis (New Vineyard, Maine/Mt. Blue) made it 2-0 early in the second quarter with a diving effort off of a rebounded shot in the 18th minute.  The goal was Ellis' ninth of the season.  USM took the 2-0 lead into the half.
  • Framingham State dominated the play in the third quarter, outshooting the Huskies 6-2, and earning the same result in penalty quarters.  Freshman Natalia Roehr (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) broke through for the Rams in the 42nd minute to make it a 2-1 game.  Roehr's goal was her seventh of the season.
  • FSU continued to battle in the fourth and tied the game up in the 52nd minute as junior Isabella Kondi (Canaan, N.H./Mascoma Valley) scored her sixth goal of the season off of an assist from sophomore Abby Clark (Uxbridge, Mass./Blackstone Valley).
  • With its lead gone, Southern Maine pressed for a go-ahead goal.  Junior Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine) won the ball in the midfield and passed it ahead to sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle). Drinkwater carried the ball towards goal before laying off a solid lead pass to a streaking Surette down the right side. Surette took a touch towards the circle before hitting a low, driven ball towards the far post for her fourth goal of the season.
