Gould Hat Trick Leads Southern Maine Over Lesley 6-2

GORHAM, Maine  - Junior Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) racked up a hat trick and the University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled to its seventh straight win defeating the Lesley University Lynx 6-2 in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Hannaford Field.

In the first meeting between both school the Huskies secured the win scoring within the first two minutes of the contest and set a program record for consecutive wins with seven. The previous mark of six wins in a row was set October 27, 1988 (University of New England) through UMass Dartmouth (September 16, 1989). The seven wins also ties the program record for longest unbeaten streak set during the 2021 season.

How It Happened:
  • Sophomore Julia McKenna (Windham, Maine) put the Huskies up early in the second minute, collected her own rebound for her sixth goal of the season.  Gould scored the first of her three goals in the game in the 14th minute to give USM a 2-0 cushion.

  • Lesley took one back quickly in the 20th minute when Abby Kalou pounced on a misplayed ball in the Huskies backline, and then hit a tremendous shot to the top of the net for her third goal of the season.
  • Gould returned USM to a three goal lead in the 21st minute finishing an assist from McKenna, before sophomore Ella Boucher (Auburn, Maine) topped in an assist from senior Katie Lynch (Bellingham, Mass./Mount Saint Charles) in the 35th for a 5-1 Husky lead at the break
