Huskies Drop LEC Road Match to Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The University of Southern Maine volleyball team was defeated by Plymouth State University 3-1 in Little East Conference action on Wednesday evening.
 
When and Where: Wednesday, October 12, 2022 – Plymouth State University – Foley Gym
 
Score: Panthers 3, Huskies 1 (27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19)
 
The Records: Plymouth State 14-3, 5-1; Southern Maine: 4-13, 2-3
 
History: Plymouth State is 30-0 against the Huskies.
 
How It Happened:
  • The first set featured nine ties and four lead changes but in the end the Panthers pulled out a 27-25 win.
  • The second set saw the Panthers go on a 6-0 run after trailing 10-9 only to have the Huskies tie the set at 19-19 thanks to a strong run of their own. However, the Panthers scored the final six points of the set to go up 2-0 with a 25-19 set victory.
  • Southern Maine staved off the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third set.
  • Plymouth State closed out the match on a 7-1 run to take the fourth set 25-19 and win the match 3-1.
Inside The Boxscore
  • Junior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) made her return to action following an injury and led the team with 15 kills.
  • Senior Sophie Lindsay (Sierra Madre, Cail./Pasadena) logged 35 assists, 12 digs, five kills and a pair of aces.
  • Junior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) led the Huskies in digs with 13.
  • Junior Meg Perry (Gorham, Maine) finished with the second most kills with 10 and tied with sophomore Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) for the team lead in aces with three.
  • Lilli Stogner logged 12 kills and 12 digs for the Panthers.
  • Stogner tied with Nora Ryan with 12 digs to lead Plymouth State.
 
Up Next: The Huskies will travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday for a noontime LEC match.
