Husson Halts Huskies 55-42

Co-Captain Jackie Luckhardt Collects 300th Career Assist

GORHAM, Maine  –  Bailey Donovan scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Husson University Eagles to a 55-42 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in women's basketball action Wednesday night at Hill Gymnasium.

Series History:  Facing each other for the first time since 2019, tonight's game marked the 53rd meeting between the two schools. The win marked the Eagles 19th overall against the Huskies. USM leads the series 34-19.
 
Standout Huskies:  Senior Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots; graduate student Jackie Luckhardt (Londonderry, N.H.) 7 points, 7 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 assists, 0 turnovers; junior Megan King (Derry, N.H.) 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist.
 
Standout Eagles:  Bailey Donovan 20 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocked shots; Megan Peach 10 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots; Vanessa Duarte 12 points, 7 rebounds.
 
How It Happened: 
  •  Donovan and Peach combined for 30 of the Eagles' 55 points. Donovan was 8-for-10 from the field while Peach was 5-for-12. 
  • Down 6-5 midway through the first half after a layup from USM's Harris, Husson closed out the quarter on a 7-1 run to lead 12-7 headed into the second.
  • The Eagles opened up a 20-9 lead outscoring USM 8-2 in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter, including five points from Duarte. Husson stayed ahead of USM by 11 until the last possession when sophomore Ashlee Aceto (South Portland, Maine) got a steal, and Luckhardt found Harris for a short jumper in the paint on the final possession of the half for a 26-17 score in favor of the Eagles.  Luckhardt's assist to Harris marked the 300th of her career.
  • Luckhardt made it a nine-point game, 31-22, at the 6:35 mark of the third with a steal and a traditional three-point play, but Husson scored eight unanswered points over the next four minutes to lead 39-22 with 2:13 left in the quarter.  Aceto scored a mid-range jumper in the paint to close the scoring in the third with USM trailing 41-26.
  • The Huskies made a run at the Eagles in the fourth pulling within, 50-42, with 1:13 to go on a layup from Harris, but Husson made 3-of-4 from the free throw line and Donovan had an offensive rebound and a put back in the final 48 seconds to make it a 55-42 final.
  • Luckhardt had five of her seven steal in the fourth quarter.
 
Inside the Stats: 
  • Luckhardt recorded her 300th career assist for the Huskies.  The Huskies' co-captain has 859 points, 486 rebounds, 300 assists and 286 steals in her career. Her seven steals in today's game are a season-high.  She is fifth all-time in school history.
  • Harris now has 763 points, 394 rebounds, 53 assists, 117 steals and 80 blocked shots in her career.
  • USM forced Husson into 27 turnovers and scored 17 of their 42 points off of Eagles' miscues. With 67 possessions, USM shot just 26.9 percent from the field for the game (18-for-67). 
  • Husson was 21-for-50 from the field (42.0 percent), including 4-for-12 from three. USM was 0-for-14 from three-point range.
