GORHAM, Maine - Freshman
Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) scored a pair of goals as part of a three-goal fourth quarter as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Bridgewater State University Bears 4-0 in Little East Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.
In the 43
rd meeting between the two schools, Southern Maine is now 29-13-2 against the Bears all-time. Including today's victory, the Huskies have won the last three meetings with the Bears.

How It Happened:
- After a closely played first half in which both teams combined for nine shots (6-3 in favor of USM) the score remained locked at 0-0.
- The Huskies turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting the Bears 18-0 in the third quarter and 14-0 in the fourth (32-0 for second half). However, USM was unable to get a goal past BSU goalie Emily Ronan, who made 21 saves, until late in the third quarter.
- USM freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored her sixth goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Drinkwater scored off of a rebound from classmate Elizabeth Gonyea (Rindge, N.H.).
- USM added three more goals in the fourth to seal the win. Sophomore Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine) knocked in USM's second goal in the 49th minute for a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Chartier scored the first of her two goals in the game at the 51st minute off of an assist from classmate Olivia Lambert (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy).
- Chartier made it 4-0 in the 56th as freshman Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) collected the rebound of her own initial shot and passed the ball off to a wide-open Chartier.
Inside The Stats:
- With her opening goal in today's game, Drinkwater leads USM with six goals and three assists for 15 points.
- Chartier's first goal in the fourth quarter is the first goal of her intercollegiate career, while both Boudreau and Lambert earned the first points of the collegiate careers as each recorded an assist.
The Goalkeepers:
- Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) earned the shutout making just two saves. She is 3-4 this season.
- Ronan's 21 saves were a career-high. Nineteen of her 21 saves came in the second half.
