Second Half Shooting Leads Colby Past Southern Maine 87-68

Jacobe Thomas and Chance Dixon led the Huskies with 15 points each

GORHAM, Maine – Will King scored 12 points, grabbed ten rebounds, and dished out 11 assists for a triple-double as the Colby College Mules defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 87-68 Sunday afternoon at the Crook Center in Waterville, Maine. 

The Mules tallied 14 blocks as they picked up a win in their first game of the season. With the loss, the Huskies drop to 2-3 on the year. The teams will face off again next Friday, March 12th at 6pm in the Huskies' final game of the 2020-2021 season.

Avery McGovern shot 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-5 from behind the arc to score a game-high 19 points and lead five players in double-figures for the Mules. Jonah Obi grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added 13 points for a double-double. Wallace Tucker and Cooper Wirkala also scored in double-figures, adding 11 and ten points each. 

Junior Jacobe Thomas (Houston, TX/Benjamin O. Davis) and freshman Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) led the scoring for the Huskies with 15 a piece, a career-high for Dixon. Both Thomas and Dixon grabbed three rebounds and a steal. Junior Jason Lombard (Pelham, N.H./Chugiak) also scored in double-figures with 14 points. He and sophomore Marcus Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) led the rebounding effort for the Huskies with eight and 11 respectively. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-After shooting 32% (12-for-37) in the first half, the Mules shot 59% in the second half going 23-for-39.
-Down by eight at the half, the Mules opened the second half with a 28-15 run and never looked back.
-To secure the win, the Mules outscored the Huskies by 15 points in the last ten minutes of play. 

INSIDE THE STATS:
-Colby outscored the Huskies in the paint 44-26.
-Shooting 5-for-7 from behind the arc, Dixon is shooting 53.3% on the season from long range.
-The Mules outrebounded the Huskies 54-31 overall and 31-14 in the second half.
