GORHAM, Maine – Senior Sophia Guerrier scored a game-high 24, including nine points in the pivotal fourth quarter, to lead the Rhode Island College Anchormen to a 62-53 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a women's basketball game Wednesday night at Hill Gymnasium.
The win extends Rhode Island College's unbeaten streak to eight games and puts the Anchormen at 8-0 on the season. Southern Maine is 0-2. Southern Maine travels to the University of New England for its next contest on Saturday (1:00 pm). The Huskies will host the Noreasters on Sunday (1:00 pm). Fans are not permitted in attendance.
Guerrier was 11-for-17 from the field for her game-high 24 points, adding five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Senior Brooke Young added 11 points as the only other RIC player in double figures, knocking down 4-of-8 from the field, including three three-pointers. Sophomore Neleesha Meunier added eight points off of the bench.
Junior
Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) led the Huskies in scoring and rebounding for the second straight game. Harris had 17 points, six rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot on a 7-for-12 effort from the floor. Senior

Kristen Curley (Gorham, Maine) had eight points, four rebounds, four assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Junior
Michelle Rowe (Gorham, Maine) added nine points and six boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing the Huskies 11-10 after the first quarter, RIC outscored USM 21-12 in the second frame. RIC shot an outstanding 55.6 percent (10-of-18) in the second quarter, led by Guerrier's six points, and four points each from Meunier and junior Willcia McBorrough.
- The Huskies trailed RIC by as many as 20 points, 48-28, following a jumper from the Anchormen's Young with 4:10 left in the third, before mounting a furious come-back effort. After the Young bucket, USM closed out the third on a 13-2 run to trail by three possessions, 50-41 heading into the fourth.
- Harris had six points in the third quarter run, while Rowe had four, and Curley had three points, and two assists.
- USM continued its torrid pace into the fourth outscoring RIC 9-2 in the opening five minutes to cut its deficit to two, 52-50, with 5:32 left in the game. Harris scored the first seven points of the half for the Huskies, while Toman canned a mid-range jumper on a driving dish from Curley to close out the run.
- With its lead cut to a single possession, RIC relied on Guerrier and she responded scoring the next six points of the game to extend her team's lead to 58-50 with 3:37 to go. Curley stopped the RIC run with a three to make it 58-53 with under two go, but RIC scored the final four points of the game for the 62-53 final.
NOTES
- With two steals in the game, senior Jackie Luckhardt (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded her 250th career steal. She is presently ninth in USM career records. Luckhardt added three assists in the contest and now has 254 in her career. The 5-4 guard has 764 points, 424 rebounds, 254 assists and 250 steals.
- Curley has 861 career points.
