           BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore
Carolyn Curley (Tewksbury, Mass.) snapped a 1-1 tie with just over nine minutes to play to give the University of New England Nor'easters a 2-1 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies at the Harold Alfond Forum on Sunday.
           The win gave the Nor'easters a sweep of the teams' home-and-home weekend series. UNE downed Southern Maine 1-0 on Saturday at the USM Ice Arena. UNE is 2-0 for the abbreviated 2020-21 season while Southern Maine drops to 1-2.
           Trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, Southern Maine scored the tying goal at 9:09. Freshman
Eryn Taber (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored her first collegiate knocking in a rebound. Senior
Rylie Binette (Milan, N.H.) and junior
Shannon Douglas (Telford, England) picked up the assists.
           The tie lasted less than two minutes as senior
Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) skated in deep along the right-wing boards and found Curley 10 feet out in front. Curley's quick shot beat USM rookie goalie
Haley McKim (Moncton, N.B.) to the far side at 10:50.
           The only goal of the opening 40 minutes came at 16:40 of the first period. Sophomore
McKenna Remillard (Fairfield, Vt.) converted a setup from sophomores
Avery Lutrzykowski (Winthrop, Maine) and
Abbi Charvat (Buffalo, N.Y.) after the Nor'easters forced a turnover in the Huskies' zone.
           UNE finished the game with a 25-20 advantage in shots on goal. Senior
Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) picked up her second win of the season stopping 19 shots. McKim made 23 saves before being lifted in the final minute for the extra attacker as USM pressed for a tying goal.
           The two sides will meet again on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at the USM Ice Arena.
