Hannah Banks Scores Twice For Southern Maine; Huskies Conclude 2021 Season.

KEENE, N.H.  -  Irini Stefanakos scored three goals to lead the top-seed Keen State College Owls to a 5-2 win over the fourth-seed University of Southern Maine Huskies in a semifinal game of the 2021 Little East Conference Tournament Thursday night at the Owl Athletic Complex.

The Records:
Southern Maine (13-9)
Keene State (12-10)

Keene State, the top seed in the tournament with a 10-2 record in the LEC during the regular season, has a 10-2 record against the Huskies in the LEC tournament.  USM's last win over the Owls in the conference tournament was in 2003 – a 3-1 win in the championship game, and USM's lone LEC title. USM defeated the Owls 2-1 (October 23) in the regular season at Hannaford Field. The Huskies finished the season 9-3 in the LEC regular season and was the fourth-seed after tie-breakers.

How It Happened:
  •  Stefanakos put the Owls up early scoring in the third minute off of an assist from Grace Taylor.  USM freshman Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) tied the game up 10 minutes later with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute, but KSC retook the lead on Stefanakos second goal of the quarter just before the buzzer sounded in the 15th minute (14:38).  Stefanakos was again assisted by Taylor on the play.
  • KSC took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break as Maggie Cahoon converted an assist from Hailey Patridge in the 28th minute.
  • USM pressured for a second goal in the third period, outshooting the Owls 7-4, but KSC countered with two quick goals in the 43rd and 44th minute to take a commanding 5-1 lead headed to the final quarter.  Stefanakos and Taylor connected again for Stefanakos' team-leading 21st goal of the season to make it 4-1, before Ellie Hunkin made it five goals for KSC in the 44th.
  • Banks scored her second goal of the game as the clock wound down converting a penalty stroke in the 60th minute for the 5-2 final.

Inside The Stats:
  • KSC led in shots 16-12 (7-7 in shots on goal) and had a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners. The Owls had seven penalty corners in the first half.

The Goalkeepers:
  • Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made two saves in the loss.
  • KSC goalkeeper Victoria Watson earned the win making seven saves and allowing one goal in 59:08 of play.  She was relieved by Molly Edmark for the final minute of action.  Edmark allowed the penalty stroke goal and did not make a save.
