WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Carly Duff (Warren, Mass./Quaboag) scored her second goal of the game with minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Worcester State University Lancers to a 3-2 Little East Conference victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Wednesday night at Coughlin Field.
Facing each other for the 24
th time in series history, Worcester has won the last three games versus the Huskies consecutively and have evened the series at 12-12. USM last defeated the Lancers on September 29, 2018 2-1 in overtime. Two of the last four meetings have gone to overtime.
The loss is just the second of the season for the Huskies in Little East Conference action. USM is now 2-3 on the road in 2021. Both of USM's losses in conference have been by one goal.

How It Happened:
- Duff put Worcester State up in the first quarter scoring her first goal of the game in the 11th minute as the Lancers outshot USM 5-1 in the opening 15 minutes.
- The Huskies charged back and took a 2-1 lead in the second quarter. Freshman Hanni Johnson (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain) scored her first intercollegiate goal just 2:35 into the second to level the Huskies with Worcester 1-1.
- Freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) made it 2-1 in favor of the Huskies in the 23rd minute. Drinkwater scored her seventh goal of the season off of an assist from classmate Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) as USM kept its advantage through the half.
- Worcester scored in the opening seconds of the third quarter making the game 2-2. Freshman Madison Avilla (Westport, Mass.) scored just 20 seconds into the half following an assist from senior Ann Maher (Manfield, Mass.).
- The game remained deadlocked at 2-2 for the next 14 minutes and 40 seconds of the third, and through a majority of the fourth quarter before Duff notched the game winner in the 58th minute on a feed from Avilla.
Inside The Stats:
- WSU led USM in shots 19-9, but just 10-8 in shots on goal. WSU also had a 13-5 lead in penalty corners.
- Drinkwater and Carson are both tied for the Huskies' lead in points with 18. Carson has eith goals and two assists, while Drinkwater has seven goals and four assists.
The Goalkeepers:
- Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made seven saves for USM in the loss. Kiklis made four saves in the third quarter as USM was outshot 8-1.
- Sophomore Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont Regional) made six saves for WSU.
