Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

WestConn Defeats Southern Maine 2-0

DANBURY, Conn.  –  Senior Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a goal and added an assist in the second half to lead Western Connecticut State University to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday morning at the Westside Athletic Complex.

How It Happened:
  • Despite outshooting USM 16-0 (6-0 on target) in the opening half, the game was at a 0-0 at the break as senior Hayes Estrella (Kennebunk, Maine) make six first half saves.
  • Restrepo broke through for the eventual game-winner in the 60th minute for his eighth goal of the season. 
  • Freshman Jordan Decosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) doubled the WestConn lead five minutes later. Decosta headed in his seventh goal of the season off of a service from Restrepo.
 
The Goalkeepers:
  •  Estrella finished the game with eight saves.
  • WestConn senior Daniel Szabo (trumbull, Conn.) did not have to make a save in the shut out win.   
 
Up Next:
            Southern Maine has concluded its 2021 season.   Western Connecticut awaits its seeding and pairing for the upcoming Little East Conference tournament championship which begins on Tuesday, November 2.
