UMass Dartmouth Slips Past Southern Maine 2-1 in Double Overtime

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.  -  Kylie Dias scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 2-1 double overtime win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field. 
 
The win is the first for the Corsairs in the last six meetings between the two schools.  UMD last defeated the Huskies in 2014.  The Huskies lead the 40-game series 21-17-2.

How It Happened:
  •  After a scoreless first half, freshman Adelle Surette (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) put the Huskies in the third quarter scoring in the 40th minute.  Surette's goal is the first of her intercollegiate career.   
  • With the Huskies seemingly headed for a 1-0 road win, Dias scored in the final 90 seconds of regulation completing an assist from Hannah Steen to force the overtime action.
  • USM dominated the first overtime period, registering five shots to the Corsairs one, but was unable to put one across the line sending the game to double overtime. 
  • In the second overtime period, Dias found Brittany Perry for the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. 
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Surette's goal marked her third consecutive game registering a point for the Huskies.
  • .USM narrowly led UMD in shots 17-16, but trailed in shots on goal 9-6.
 
The Goalkeepers:
  • Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made seven saves for USM in the loss.
  • Freshman Alyssa McDonough (Hill, N.H./Newfound Regional) earned win for the Corsairs making four saves.  She was assisted by a defensive save from Mya Amaral.
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine remains on the road and travels to Fitchburg State College on Wednesday (7:00 pm) for a Little East Conference game.  UMass Dartmouth hosts Eastern Connecticut on Monday (4:30 pm) in an LEC contest.
