Huskies Fall At UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.   –  Kayla McMahon scored a game-high 27 points to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsiars to an 81-49 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center. 

         With the win, UMass Dartmouth stands at 15-10 overall and 10-6 in the Little East.  Southern Maine is 10-15 and 5-11 in Little East Conference action. 

         McMahon was 9-for-14 from the field, including an outstanding 7-for-9 from three-point range for the game-high total.  Jordan Moretti added 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists and fouor steals, while Ashley Brown had 16 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals and seven assists. Lauren Empey came off the bench for 14 points. 

         Southern Maine sophomore Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) paced the Huskies with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Freshman Megan King had a career-best nine points off of the bench, knocking down 3-of-5 from the field, while senior Katie Howe (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown) had eight points, six rebounds and two steals.  

         UMass Dartmouth used a big second quarter to open a large lead against the Huskies. The Corsairs shot 42.6 percent (29-for-68) from the field for the game and were 40.7 percent (11-for-27) from three-point range led by McMahon's seven threes.  The Huskies shot well from the free throw line (13-for-14) but struggled offensively in the loss shooting 24.2 percent (16-for-66) from the field.
