BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team dropped its final non-conference game of the 2019-20 regular season falling the University of New England Nor'easters 4-0 Tuesday evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Nor'easters, and improved their overall record to 10-4-1.  The Nor'easters swept the teams' home-and-home season series having shut out the Huskies in the season opener in November.  The Huskies dropped to 6-10-2 overall.

After a scoreless opening period, the Nor'easters took the lead at 1:53 of the second frame on a goal from sophomore Bella Crugnale (Pittsburgh, Pa.).  Junior Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) doubled the home side's lead with the first of her two goals at 14:19.

The Nor'easters added two unassisted goals from senior Meagan Accardi (Berlin, N.H.) and Scott in the third period for the final tally.

Junior goalie Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) turned aside 16 shots to earn her second shutout this season over the Huskies.  Senior Whitney Padgett (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished with 27 saves.  UNE rolled up a 31-16 edge in shots on goal.

Southern Maine is on the road this weekend for New England Hockey Conference games at Plymouth Stat University on Friday (6 p.m.) and Salem State University on Saturday (2 p.m.).  UNE will play a home-and-home Colonial Hockey Conference series with Becker College this Friday (7:10 p.m.) and Saturday (4 p.m.).
