Teams Meet Saturday at USM at 12:30

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Down 3-1 early in the second period, freshman forward Shelby Reaugh (Raleigh, N.C. / Carolina Jr. Eagles) scored two goals as the Becker College women's ice hockey team rallied to stun the visiting team from the University of Southern Maine, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

The win was Becker's first-ever victory over Southern Maine, having previously gone 0-4 against the Huskies, and improved the Hawks overall mark to 6-8-0.  The Huskies had their three-game unbeaten streak (1-0-2) snapped by the defeat.

With the Hawks trailing by two, Reaugh broke out in the second period, with her fourth and fifth career goals to tie the game.  Reaugh's first goal of the contest came 5:19 into the second on a power play shot, assisted by Kelly and freshman forward Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass. / Marlboro Minutemen Lady Flames). Reaugh then tied the game with 9:35 to go in the second, assisted by Kelly and sophomore forward Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass. / Billerica Memorial). The teams were once again even at 3-3.

Continuing the momentum for the Hawks, Becker scored their third consecutive goal to take the lead as Wozniak struck with 7:58 to go in the second. For the first time in the day, the home team had taken the lead, with the score at 4-3 going into the third period. The third would prove scoreless, and Becker escaped with the win.

Southern Maine sophomore forward Julianne Nelson (Armstrong, BC / Anna Maria College) opened the scoring for the Huskies just 3:39 into the game, scoring an unassisted short-handed goal to put the visitors up 1-0. It was Nelson's fifth goal of the season.

Becker freshman forward Katie Puumala (Framingham, Mass. / Winchendon Prep) evened things out at 1-1 for the Hawks with a power-play goal just 23 seconds later, with assists to freshman defender Trinity White (Sandwich, Mass. / Tilton Prep) and sophomore defender Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury).

With 2:44 remaining in the first period, Southern Maine retook the lead with a power-play goal from junior forward Rylie Binette (Milan, NH / Berlin HS), assisted by sophomore forward Brianna Doty (Lyndonville, VT / Lyndon Institute) and sophomore forward Shannon Douglas (Telford, England / Ontario Hockey Academy). The Huskies entered the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Southern Maine senior forward Katie Nolan (Dorchester, MA / Fontbonne Academy) made it 3-1 just 2:16 into the second period, assisted by senior forward Amanda Piknick (Hyannis, MA / Barnstable).

Becker freshman goaltender Madelyn Morgan (Riverside, Calif. / Hoosac School) tallied 41 saves, including 22 in the third period, in net for the Hawks to pick up the win.  Southern Mainer senior goaltender Whitney Padgett (Eden Prairie, MN / Rice Memorial) recorded 23 stops for the Huskies.  The Huskies outshot the Hawks, 44-27.

The Hawks and Huskies are back on the ice tomorrow when they play at the USM Ice Arena in Gorham, Maine at 1:00 p.m.
