BANGOR, Maine – Cai Pritchard scored his second goal of the game in the 68th minute to break up a 1-1 tie and deliver a 2-1 victory for the Husson University Eagles over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's game Friday night at Boucher Field.
The win is the first of the season for the Eagles who are now 1-2. Southern Maine falls to 0-3-1 with the loss.
Pritchard put the Eagles up 1-0 late in the first half, knocking in his first goal of the game in the 35th minute, converting an Ali Essallamy assist. Husson's 1-0 lead stood through the half.
Southern Maine quickly equalized in the second half as junior Peter Mayhorn (Waterville, Maine) notched his first goal of the season, and first in a Huskies' uniform, in the 50th minute. The game remained locked up at one goal each until Pritchard's game-winner in the 68th.
Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Cameron Atherton (New Milford, Conn.) made a pair of saves for the Huskies in the loss. Husson goalkeeper Benjamin Powell stopped four. Husson held a 19-10 advantage in shots.
Southern Maine remains on the road for its next contest and will take on St. Joseph's College (Maine) at 6:00 pm on Monday.
