BOSTON  –  Charles Mitchell scored a game-high 26 points to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 67-42 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Clark Athletic Center.

UMass Boston improves to 5-1 with the win and is 1-0 to start Little East Conference play.  Southern Maine falls to 4-4 and 0-2 in the Little East.  The Huskies are 1-2 on the road this season. 

Mitchell sank seven threes (7-for-15) to pace the Beacons, adding five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Dasan Cinelli was the only other UMass Boston player in double-digits with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Malik Lorquet had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds for UMB. 

Shamon Shinal was 6-for-10 from the floor to lead USM with 13 points, adding four rebounds.  Junior DJ Anderson (Houston, Texas/Davis) had seven points and seven rebounds, while freshman Cody Hawes was 3-for-5 from the floor for eight points off of the bench, adding four rebounds and three assists. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Mitchell scored 17 of his 26 points in the opening half as the Beacons raced out to a 40-21 lead at the break.  Mitchell was 5-for-10 from three and 6-for-10 overall. Cinelli scored 11 of his 15 in the opening half. 
• Shinal scored nine of his 13 in the first half for USM, but the Huskies connected on just eight first-half field goal. 
• USM kept pace with Boston in the second half, but was unable to get closer than 15 points in the second half. Anderson scored five of his seven in the second half for the Huskies.
