GORHAM, Maine – Bill Ruby scored 20 points off of the bench, shooting 7-for-12 from the field, and added eight rebounds to lead four players in double-figures as the UMaine Farmington Beavers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 88-58 Tuesday nigh at Dearborn Gymnasium in a non-conference men's basketball game.
The Beavers shot 47.8 percent (33-for-69) from the field to improve to 5-3 on the season. Southern Maine drops to 4-6 with the loss.
Terion Moss was 7-for-13 from the field for 18 points for UMF, while Amir Moss and Riley Robinson each scored 10 points. Robinson had 13 rebounds to snag a double-double, while Amir Ross chipped in with six assists and five rebounds.
USM freshman Cody Hawes had a career-best 11 points to lead the Huskies shooting 3-for-5 from the field, knocking down three three-pointers. He added three assists in a strong performance off of the bench. Senior Jay Roberts was the only other USM player in double-figures notching a double-double with 10 points and a game and career-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Jacobe Thomas and senior Derek Haney each had nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ruby scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half, finishing 6-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line as UMF doubled up the Huskies in the first half 42-21. Thomas led USM in the first half with six points, as the Huskies shot 24.0 (6-for-25) from the field in the opening stanza.
- USM kept pace with the Beavers in the second half, but UMF stayed in front outscoring the Huskies 46-37 in the final 20 minutes. Terion Moss scored 11 of his 18 in the second half, making 4-for-6 from the field, including two threes.
