Southern Maine Downs Husson 3-0 at Hill Gym

Box Score

Southern Maine Downs Husson 3-0

GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine) had a match-high 14 kills as the University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team defeated visiting Husson University 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-16) in a non-conference match Tuesday night at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

The win extends the Huskies' winning streak to three and improves their overall record to 10-10.  The Eagles dropped their sixth straight match to slide to 4-18 on the season.

The opening set saw both teams match runs until the Huskies snapped a 22-22 tie by winning three straight points to take the set.  USM jumped out to a 10-3 advantage in the second set and never looked back.

The decisive third set was a duplicate of the second as USM had a big early run behind the serving of sophomore Sophie Lindsay (Pasadena, Calif.).  After a Husson timeout broke the Huskies momentum, the Eagles closed to within three (9-6), but that would as close as they would get as the Huskies responded by taking four straight points, and six of the next seven, to open a 15-7 lead.

Senior Megan Gettings (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) and junior Jamie Jannarone (Windham, Maine) complemented Foerster up front with six kills apiece.  Lindsay finished with five kills, five service aces and 22 assists. Senior Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) contributed five kills and a pair of blocks.  Juniors Lauren Delissio (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) and Rachel Chillé (Yarmouth, Maine) each had 10 digs.

Senior Mary Grace Power (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) led the Eagles' offense with nine kills.  Rookie Cheyenne Young (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) had five kills, and classmate Eryka West (Meriden, Conn./Lyman Hall) contributed four kills.  Senior setter Hannah Hembrow (Milford, N.H.) passed out 20 assists.  Sophomore libero Adrienne Beatty (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) had seven digs to lead the Eagles.

Southern Maine travels to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday (12 p.m.) for a tri-match with UMD and Smith College.  Husson is off until October 16th when the Eagles travel to the University of New England.
