Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – Senior Emma Patterson had a goal and two assist to lead the Bates College Bobcats to a 5-0 shutout win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Thursday night at Campus Avenue Field.
The win is the third in a row for the Bobcats who improve to 5-6 overall, and 4-2 on their home field. Southern Maine drops to 6-7 overall with the loss.
Limiting the Huskies to just a pair of shot in the game, Bates controlled the game early outshooting USM 22-2, and took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest. After senior Taylor Lough's early goal, the Bobcats tacked on two more to comfortably lead USM 3-0 at the break. Bates added two more goals in the second half for the 5-0 final.
Huskies' freshman Lindsay Pych (West Milford, N.J./Morristown-Beard) made three saves in the loss as eight of the Bobcats' 22 shots were on frame. Freshman Ellie Bauer did not make a save for Bates in the win.
Southern Maine hosts Westfield State in a Little East Conference game on Saturday (3:00 p.m.). The Huskies will be sponsoring a Domestic Violence Awareness game in partnership with USM's Campus Safety Project. The Huskies will be wearing purple during the game in a show of support, and the Campus Safety Project will be on hand with educational materials and resources regarding sexual violence and healthy relationships.
