NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Joshua Imadiyi and Arinze Obiora each scored 23 points to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to 83-64 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Trip Athletic Center.
With the win, UMass Dartmouth improves its overall record to 9-4 and 2-1 in Little East Conference play. The Huskies fall to 1-12 overall, and 0-3 in the conference.
Imadiyi was 10-18 from the field, adding seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while Obiora was 8-10 from the field, and had 10 rebounds for a double-double to pace the Corsairs. Jake Ashworth and Nick Bond each scored nine points.
Southern Maine freshman DJ Anderson (Houston, Texas/Davis) scored a career-high 19 points on a strong performance off of the bench. Anderson added a team-high seven rebounds. Junior Sean Jany (Westbrook, Maine) added 14 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Keenan Hendricks (Owls Head, Maine/Oceanside) and senior Christian McCue (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) each had nine points.
Led by 18 first-half points from Imadiyi, UMass Dartmouth led the Huskies 43-29 at the half. The Corsairs nearly shot sixty percent from the field in the opening half making 17-30 from the floor. Southern Maine fared better in the second half, but the Cosairs outscored the Huskies 41-35 in the second half. Anderson scored 13 of his career-best 19 points in the second half, making 5-9 from the field, while Jany scored seven.
USM hosts Rhode Island College on Wednesday (7:30 pm) for its next contest. It will be just the second home game in the last seven for the Huskies.
