Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Sophomore Georgia Cassidy (Darien, Conn.) scored twice to lead the Colby College Mules to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday evening at Bill Alfond Field.
With the win, Colby improves to 6-3 overall, and increases its record at home to 4-1 on the season. Southern Maine drops its second straight non-conference game to stand at 4-8 on the season.
Colby freshman Lauren Walter (Dedham, Mass./Noble and Grenough) scored with three minutes left in the first half to put the Mules ahead 1-0 before the break before Colby broke the game open in the second half with three goals. Cassidy scored the first of her back-to-back goals in the 37th minute. Cassidy made it 3-0 in the 57th minute before junior Eleanor Fitzgerald (Falmouth, Maine) scored just a minute later to give the Mules a solid 4-0 advantage.
Colby held a 25-1 lead in shots, including a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 16-2 edge in penalty corners. USM freshman goalkeeper McKenzie Cormier (Hiram, Maine/Sacopee Valley) made nine saves in the loss. Colby junior Riley Whitmyer (Bentleyville, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) made one save in the win.
Southern Maine returns to action on the road at Western Connecticut State (11:00 a.m.) in an LEC contest.
