St. Joseph's College Nips Southern Maine 1-0

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Sophomore Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) scored in the 60th minute to break up a scoreless game and lead the St. Joseph's College (Maine) Monks to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Wednesday night.

With the win, St. Joseph's College remains undefeated on the season at 14-0-1.  The Monks have not allowed a goal this season in 1370 minutes of action.  Southern Maine is now 5-9-2 on the season suffering its second consecutive set back.

Duncan scored his fourth goal of the season on an assist from junior Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.).  The Monks outshot the Huskies 15-4 in the game, but Husky freshman goalkeeper Richard Glemawu (Accra, Ghana/South Kent (Conn.)) continued his impressive play in net to keep SJC off of the scoreboard until the 60th minute.

Southern Maine nearly had the equalizer nine minutes later when Husky freshman Riley Dinsmore-Patch (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood) put a shot on frame only to have it hit off the cross bar in the 69th minute. The Huskies had one more shot on target in the final 20 minutes of regulation but were unable to get the game-tying goal for the equalizer.

Glemawu made seven saves for the Huskies in the loss.  SJC junior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) made two saves to earn the win for the Monks.

Southern Maine travels to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (4:00 pm) in a Little East Conference game.
