Box Score WILLAMANTIC, Conn. - Five players scored in double figures to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 75-47 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Geissler Gym.
Eastern Connecticut extends its win streak to nine games with the win improving to 13-5 overall, and remains undefeated in the Little East Conference. Southern Maine drops to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Tarchee Brown scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to earn team-high scoring honors for the Warriors. Kendall Marquez and Hugh Lindo each scored 12 points, while Lindo notched a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. Carlos Gonzalez and Tyrell Arunum each scored 11 points.
Southern Maine junior Christian McCue (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Senior James Starks III (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian) added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Marquez scored all 12 of his points in the first half, knocking down 4-of-5 three-pointers as ECSU shot 50.0 percent (18-for-36) from the field in the first half to open up a commanding 44-16 lead at the break. The Huskies shot just 28.6 percent (8-for-28) in the first half. Southern Maine matched ECSU with 31 points in the second half, but could not overcome its first half deficit in the loss.
Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) and will host Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference game. USM Athletics will be hosting its annual Town of Gorham Night during is LEC doubleheader, celebrating the partnership between the University and the Town of Gorham. There will be special halftime performances from the Gorham Recreation Department's third and fourth grade boys' and girls' basketball team and cheerleaders. In addition there will be raffles and prizes and music from the USM School of Music. Eastern Connecticut hits the road on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) and travels to Keene State for an LEC match up.
