Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Five different players scored a goal as the United States Coast Guard Academy Bears defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the final game of the 2016 Husky Fall Classic Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With the win, Coast Guard stands at 2-0 through two games this season. Southern Maine is in search of its first win of the season at 0-2.
Junior Luke Telang (Providence, R.I.) scored the first goal of the game in the 27th minute, knocking the ball off the inside of the post and in, before senior Brad McNell (Antioch, Calif.) and junior Austin Read (Takoma Park, Md.) each scored in the 36th and 37th minute respectively to give the Bears a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half.
Senior Alex Lane (Shorewood, Wis.), who tallied the Bears' game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Castleton on Friday, scored on a direct kick in the 52nd minute to make it 4-0, before senior Jake Rath (Kearney, Mo.) scored the final goal of the game in the 70th minute.
Coast Guard goalkeepers junior Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, Conn.) and freshman Dakota Harich (New Market, Md.) split time in goal, with neither making a save. Southern Maine Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) made nine saves in the loss.
GAME THREE: Westfield State 1, Castleton 0
Junior Connor Gilbert (Melrose, Mass.) scored in the 89th minute to deliver the 1-0 win for the Westfield State Owls over the Castleton Spartans in game three of the Husky Golf Classic Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
The goal is Gilbert's second of the season and came off of an assists from sophomore Brodie Keene (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) Westfield State goalkeeper junior Marc Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.) earned the shut out victory making six saves. Castleton junior Aaron Parker (Windsor, Vt./Hartford) made four saves in the loss.
Southern Maine returns to action on Friday (7:30 p.m.) at Husson University's Adidas Challenge Cup.
