Box Score 2 Huskies Down RIC, Becker by 3-0 Counts
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team snapped its two-match losing skid in convincing style Saturday sweeping Rhode Island College and Becker College by 3-0 scores in a tri-match at RIC's Murray Center.
Southern Maine opened its Little East Conference schedule by downing Rhode Island College 25-19, 25-22, 27-25, then returned to the court to dispatch with Becker in a non-conference match 25-11, 25-14, 25-19. The two wins lift the Huskies to 7-3 overall and a 1-0 mark in LEC play.
Juniors Robbi Termentozzi (Littleton, Colo./Central) and Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) led the Huskies' attack. Termentozzi had 10 kills with a .562 attack percentage (10-1-16) while Williamson swung for 13 kills. Sophomore Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) passed out 18 assists, and senior Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) dished out 13. Rookie libero Jenna Graves (Corinth, Texas) had a match-high 10 digs.
For the Anchorwomen, junior Courtney Lambrese (North Smithfield, R.I./Cranston West) knocked down 11 kills and dug up seven balls. Sophomore Jillian Ward (Coventry, R.I.) added eight kills, and junior Sierra Smith (Longmont, Colo./Ponaganset) contributed six kills. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, R.I.) had 24 assists.
Against Becker, Williamson knocked down 12 kills to pace the attack. Rookie Megan Gettings (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) came on to add seven kills, three service aces and five digs. Nilson had 16 assists, four kills, three aces and eight digs, and Schmitz contributed 10 helpers. Freshman Taylor Ziska (Loveland, Colo./Mountain View) had a team-high 10 digs.
Rookies Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) and Gillian Criddle (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) led the Hawks with five kills apiece. Freshman Morgan Gould (North Attleboro, Mass./Tri-County) had eight assists, and sophomore Brittany Bullis (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) dug up 11 balls.
Southern Maine begins a seven-match home stand on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) hosting Husson University for a non-conference match. Rhode Island College is back in action on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) traveling to Wheaton College. Becker travels to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
