FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington field hockey (4-0) used three first-half goals to secure a 4-0 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field.

Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) tallied UMF's goal in the 13th minute. Raymond marched into the circle and lined a shot on goal, which deflected off a USM defender's stick and into the back of the cage.

With ten minutes to go before the half, Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) doubled the Beavers' lead after battling through a scrum in front of the cage and knocked in her ninth goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, a pair of rookies teamed up to give UMF a 3-0 advantage before the break. Lauren Watson (Clinton, Maine/Lawrence) entered the circle and dished a pass off to her left to Nickyia Lovely (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner), who hit a one-timer past USM diving keeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) for the goal.

In the 47th minute, Raymond charted her second goal of the contest. Andrea Stemm sent a forward pass through the USM defense where Raymond dribbled on and smacked a grounder into the left corner of the cage.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) picked up her fourth win of the season and made three saves to earn her second straight shutout. Kasbohm made 12 saves in the loss, playing 59:02 of the game. She was relieved by rookie Elizabeth Amadei for the final 10:58.  Amadei did not face a shot.
