Box Score Southern Maine Falls to Franklin Pierce 2-0
WINCHENDON, Mass. -- Junior Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) made 18 saves to backstop the Franklin Pierce University Ravens to a 2-0 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in New England Hockey Conference action Saturday night.
The game was the regular season finale for both teams. The Ravens finished the season 16-7-1 overall and 10-7-0 in league play. The Huskies dropped their fifth straight game to conclude the campaign 3-20-2 overall and 2-13-2 in NEHC play.
USM sophomore goalie Courtney Davis (Woburn, Mass.) kept the Huskies even through a scoreless first period despite the Ravens rolling up a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Ravens broke the deadlock early in the second period when senior Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) scored her 13th goal of the season out of a scramble in front of Davis. Classmate Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Penn.) picked up the lone assist.
Davis continued to keep USM within striking distance through the final 18 minutes of the second period, and the opening 10 minutes of the third before junior Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) gave the Ravens an insurance marker with a shot from the slot.
Franklin Pierce finished with a 36-18 advantage in shots on goal. Davis finished with 34 saves. Both sides went 0 for 5 on the power play.
