Davis Makes 44 Saves for the Huskies

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- Junior Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) scored the only goal of the game midway through the second period to give the #7/#8 Norwich University Cadets a 1-0 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in New England Hockey Conference women's action Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

The win was the seventh straight for the Cadets and improved their record to 16-6-0 overall and 13-1-0 in conference play.  The Huskies, who played the game with just nine skaters, slipped to 3.16.2 overall and 2-10-2 in the league.

Behind the outstanding goaltending of sophomore Courtney Davis (Woburn, Mass.), the short-handed Huskies were in a scoreless game with the Cadets through the first 31 minutes.  Norwich senior Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec) gained possession of the puck along the boards and fed Murphy in front of the net where the junior forward snapped a shot off the crossbar for the only goal.  The goal was the 10th of the season for Murphy.

Davis kept the deficit at one and finished the game stopping 44 shots.  Junior Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) made six saves at the other end to record her fifth shutout of the season.  Norwich outshot Southern Maine 45-6 in the game.

Southern Maine travels to Castleton University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for an NEHC game.  Norwich goes for eight in a row on Saturday (7:00 p.m.) hosting the University of New England.
