Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Thirteen players figured in the scoring as the Bowdoin College Polar Bears upended the University of Southern Maine Huskies 77-46 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at Fifield Court.
Bowdoin held USM to just 14 points over the second and third quarter to earn its second-straight win to improve to 3-2 on the season. Southern Maine drops its second straight and is now 2-3 with the loss.
Freshman Abigail Kelly (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blink Brook) led the Polar Bears with 13 points. Kelly was 3-for-5 from three, adding five rebounds and two steals. Senior Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.) added 12 points and eight rebounds. Sophomores Kate Kerrigan (Wellesley Hills, Mass./Noble & Greenough), Lauren Petit (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Marle Curle (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) each scored nine points.
Southern Maine senior Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine/Messalonskee) led USM with 13 points and five rebounds. Senior Gretchen Anderson (Kittery Point, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) added 10 points.
Despite limiting Bowdoin to a 37.9 percent (25-of-66) effort from the floor, Southern Maine committed 26 turnovers in the loss. The Polar Bears converted on the Husky miscues scoring 33 of its points off of Southern Maine turnovers.
Southern Maine opens its 2015-2016 Little East Conference season on the road this Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at Eastern Connecticut State. Bowdoin hosts Tufts on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
