Castleton Stymies Southern Maine 43-28

            SALEM, Mass. – Jade Desroches scored 14 points to lead the Castleton University Spartans to a season-opening 43-28 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the first game of the Salem State University Tip-Off Women's Basketball Classic at Twohig Gymnasium.

            Castleton now 1-0 will face host Salem State on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) Southern Maine will face Thomas College on Saturday (1:00).

            While neither team shot particularly well from the field, Southern Maine was held to just 18.2 percent shooting from the floor (8-for-44).  Castleton shot 30.6 percent (15-for-49).  Desroches was 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range to lead the Spartans.

            Freshman Alex Srolovitz (Montreal, QC/New Hampton) paced Southern Maine with seven points off of the bench in a 3-for-6 shooting effort, including a 1-for-2 mark from three point range. Senior Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine/Messalonskee) led USM with six rebounds.
