Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College sophomore forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) netted a hat trick and added one assist as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team captured a 6-0 victory over the Southern Maine Huskies at the RIC Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the contest, the Anchormen (10-6, 5-2 LEC) honored their four seniors in a senior day ceremony.

The Anchormen took the 1-0 lead just over nine minutes into the game when freshman forward Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI) snuck past a USM (2-14-1, 0-7 LEC) defender and ripped a shot home off a feed from sophomore midfielder Ty Catunto (New Bedford, MA).

The Anchormen doubled their lead in the 13th minute when Dogbey netted his first of the game and 13th of the season unassisted. Dogbey would strike again in the 21st minute when he found the back of the net off an assist from junior defender Yemi Matthew (Providence, RI) for the 3-0 advantage.

The Anchormen would make the score 4-0 entering the halftime break when junior forward Nicholas Wolny (Woonsocket, RI) tallied his second of the season with assists going to sophomore forward Steven Cardoso (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore midfielder Solomon Agyemang (Pawtucket, RI) in the 38th minute.

RIC junior goalie Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) made one stop in the half with USM freshman goalkeeper Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, ME) stopping seven. RIC held a 22-1 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in corners in the half.

Dogbey scored his third of the contest just 55 seconds into the second half when he took a long pass from RIC junior midfielder Evan Rosa (Rehoboth, MA) and beat the goalie for the 5-0 lead. RIC senior José Zarraga (Providence, RI) scored the final goal for the Anchormen in his final regular season home game, corralling a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar and putting it in the empty net for the 6-0 lead in the 67th minute. Each team would trade opportunities; the best being a penalty kick save by Hulbert.

Moura (10-5) and junior Alexander LaBreche (Lincoln, RI) combined for the two save shutout with Hulbert (2-13-1) stopping 15 in the defeat. RIC held a commanding 39-3 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Anchormen return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 4, when they travel to either Eastern Connecticut or UMass Boston for the opening round of the LEC tournament.
