Box Score GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Roosevelt Shider (Meriden, Conn./Wilcox Tech) score a game-high 23 points to lead the Rhode Island College Anchormen to a 72-57 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.
The win is the fifth straight for the Anchormen who improve to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the Little East. Southern Maine dips to 3-11 overall and remains winless in the conference at 0-4.
Shider was 8-for-14 overall from the field and 6-for-10 from the three-point line to lead RIC. Senior Chris Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added 15 points for the Anchormen who shot a solid 48.1 percent (26-for-54) from the field in the win.
Southern Maine junior Jacob Littlefield (Mechanic Falls, Maine/Poland Regional) paced the Huskies' offensively with 21 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Sophomore Zach Leal (York, Maine) added 11 points and three assists.
RIC broke open a close game midway through the second half. Southern Maine had grabbed a slim 46-45 lead after a three from junior Alex Fraser (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) with 11:24 to play, but the Anchormen responded with 15-0 run to grab control of the game. Six different Anchormen scored in the pivotal run led by a pair of threes from senior Eric Alleyne (Watertown, Mass./Brimmer & May). After the run, the Huskies were never able to get closer than 12 points the rest of the half as RIC shot an outstanding 56 percent (14-for-25) from the field in the second half.
Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference tilt on Saturday (3:00 p.m.). Rhode Island College hosts Plymouth State on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in a LEC match up.
