Maine Maritime Slips Past Southern Maine 1-0

BANGOR, Maine –  An early goal from senior Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine/Brunswick) proved to be decisive as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 1-0 in the third game of the Husson University Eagles Cup Challenge Saturday afternoon in Bangor, Maine.

            The win is the first of the season for the Mariners who are now 1-3 on the season.  The loss is the fourth straight for Southern Maine, now 0-4.   

             Warren scored his second goal of the season in the sixth minute and the Mariners defense kept the Huskies off of the scoreboard to earn the win.   Warren benefitted off of an assist from classmate Christopher Gilman (Old Town, Maine) to deliver the game-winning goal.

            Southern Maine freshman goalkeeper Charles Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) played well in the loss making 13 saves.  Maine Maritime Marshal Spear (Rockport, Maine/Camden) made two saves to earn the shut out.

            Southern Maine hosts St. Joseph's College (Maine)  on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) for its next contest.  Maine Maritime also returns to action on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) hosting UMaine Fort Kent.
