St. Joseph's Nips Southern Maine 1-0

            STANDISH, Maine –  Freshman Bailey Carter (Lisbon Fall, Maine/Lisbon) scored the lone goal of the game in the 11th minute to lead the St. Joseph's College (Maine) Monks to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Thursday afternoon at Mercy Field.

            Both teams entered the game riding two-game winning streaks.  St. Joseph's College kept its win-streak alive extending it to three games to improve to 5-1 on the season.  The Huskies' record evens out at 4-4 with the loss. It is the second 1-0 loss of the season for Southern Maine.

            Cutler scored her first intercollegiate goal at 10:27 to deliver the win for St. Joseph's College.  The Monks had a strong advantage 7-0 in shots in the opening half before finishing with a 10-5 lead for the game.  The Monks also had an 18-1 in penalty corners.

            Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine), the reigning Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, made three saves in the loss. Senior Rebecca Pratt (Cornville, Maine/Skowhegan) and junior Marina Davidson (Windham, Maine) each had a defensive save.

            The Huskies had a pair of chances for the equalizer in the closing minutes of regulation but came up short.  Senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) had a breakaway attempt but her shot sailed wide of the net and Pratt had a near-goal cleared off of the line by St. Joseph's senior Emily Jordan (Whitefield, Maine/Erskine Academy) in 67th and 68th minutes respectively. 

            Southern Maine remains on the road for its next game and will face Little East Conference opponent Keene State on Saturday (1:30 p.m.).  St. Joseph's College hosts Lasell on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
