Southern Maine Falls to Rivier 3-1

            NASHUA, N.H. -- Sophomore middle hitter Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) knocked down 13 kills to lead the Rivier University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win (25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 25-13) over visiting University of Southern Maine in a non-conference match Thursday evening at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

            The win was the Raiders seven in their last eighth matches, and improved their overall record to 10-5.  The Huskies slip to 10-4 overall.

            The teams split the first two sets with the Raiders taking the opening set 25-20 before the Huskies came back in set two for a 25-19 win.  The Raiders took the pivotal third set 25-18, and then closed the match with a 25-13 win in the fourth set.

            Sophomore outside hitter Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) contributed with 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior setters Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) directed the offense as they dished out 16 and 20 assists, respectively. Freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) led the defensive effort with 19 digs.

            Freshman Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) led the Huskies with her seventh double-double of the season.  The 5-foot-7 outside hitter pounded down a match-high 18 kills to go along with a .378 attack percentage (18-4-37) and 11 digs.  Sophomore Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) dished out 26 assists and served up three aces, and junior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction Colo.) dug up 12 balls.

            Southern Maine is back in action on Saturday hosting a tri-match with Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University (12:00 p.m.) and in-state rival Bates College (4:00 p.m.).  Rivier hosts Colby College and Southern Vermont College on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
